Ignore founders who say:

"Our team won't speak up."

Silence outspeaks indifference.

Silence means you taught them nothing changes.

Every leader says they want feedback. Few ever act when it exposes their ego or their process. Founders are thirsty for innovation but reward docility. You ask for honesty? Then, punish dissent. You demand ownership? Then kill initiative with micro-edits.

The real cancer in early-stage teams: ignored feedback.

Look at your business. Are your team silent because they don't care? Or because you made it clear that input dies when you receive it?

Your Slack channels are wastelands. Your AMAs are pure monologues. Pulse surveys collect and that's it.

You say "we're building together." But you're the last stop for new ideas. Your product fails: you surprised or just stubbornly proud?

Leaders who don't know what people want make no effort. It's not that hard.

Here's my playbook for gathering invaluable feedback:

— Roll out monthly feedback forms — Open channels for anonymous insights — Master active listening in 1:1s and list key points — Seek input on documents before final decisions — Uncover hidden gems from document and PR comments — Host Q&A sessions post-announcements — Conduct retrospectives after every milestone — Analyze incidents with post-mortems

Plenty of data to work with.

Retrieving data is just 10% of the game:

— Own your actions with full transparency — Turn feedback into clear goals and prioritize with purpose — Expose your progress and milestones — Connect with peers and leaders to spark initiatives

Bonus: compile feedback and share it with everyone to build trust.

The only teams worth leading are the ones brave enough to speak up. If it's quiet, the problem is you.
