But behind the scenes?

  • Decisions drag
  • Responsibility circles endlessly
  • The same people step up (until they stop)
  • Everyone's careful not to overstep
  • No one feels accountable

It's not collaboration—it's diffusion. It looks inclusive, but breeds inaction.

Ownership isn't about ego or control. It's about clarity. It tells your team: "You've got this. We trust you."

Without clear ownership, urgency dies. With it, people move faster, raise flags earlier, and ship more confidently.

If you want alignment, don't default to shared ownership. Default to named ownership—with context, trust, and support.

Shared ownership is easy to say. But leadership is about making things clear—even when it's uncomfortable.
